CIPLA NUTRITION MD STEPS DOWN TO PURSUE ENTREPRENEURIAL PASSION
Since the company’s inception in 2010, Lewis was responsible for the conceptualisation, development and commercialisation of the entire Cipla Nutrition product range, which is now available in large retailers nationwide, such as Shoprite, Clicks, Wellness Warehouse, among others, as well as online.
Under his leadership the brand has grown exponentially since it went to market mid-2012 and has achieved a number of key milestones, says Paul Miller, CEO of Cipla Medpro SA. “Most notable is the recent launch of a fully-fledged online store which is powered by an innovative e-commerce strategy that allows the business to aggregate sales from a wide range of different channels. In addition to this, he innovated and oversaw the development of an online sales portal called CNLink™, a first of its kind in South Africa which allows trainers and coaches to provide their clients seamless access to Cipla Nutrition products with remarkably little effort. He also spear-headed the establishment of Cipla’s own nutritional supplement powder mixing facility and, most recently, successfully negotiated the distribution of the product range into the United States of America.”
Lewis says he is confident that he is leaving the Cipla Nutrition brand in a position of strength. “I believe the company has now reached a point where it can successfully operate at a sustainable and profitable level and is on par with global nutrition brands in terms of product development and technological innovations.”
An entrepreneur at heart, Lewis has a passion for setting up businesses, particularly in the technology sector. His flair for technology is evident in the recent technological innovations he has brought to the Cipla Nutrition brand, as well as his past experience as the co-founder, shareholder and Managing Director of X/Procure® Software (Pty) Ltd, an electronic procurement tool for the pharmaceutical industry, which he took from conception to a market leader through the innovative and then ahead of its time concept of electronic competitive advertising at point of purchase in 2003. He went on to successfully negotiate the sale of X/Procure® to Primedia in 2005 earning him a multi-million Rand payout.
”The contribution Lewis has made to the company is perpetual. We are grateful to him for his dedication to the upliftment of the brand so that more consumers can have access to high quality and pharmaceutically-developed nutritional supplements. We wish him all the best for his future endeavours and we are sure we will be working together again in the near future,” concludes Miller.
